Basically you have other bands in their niches and genres…and then you have Algernon Cadwallader…who could quite possibly be responsible for world peace in the near future.

This EP is fairly heavy; I don’t mean 'far beyond driven' heavy…this is darkly brooding head music...there is a lot going on. I think anyone who likes music with space and dynamics will enjoy this…I’m going to see about getting myself a ticket for these guys…

Back in the day limited editions used to garner my interest even if the band didn’t, I almost bought the debut Radiohead album because it was being sold for under £5, to this day I thank the Lord I didn’t and that my then impressionable ears were not shaped by those pointless fools. Anyway, back to Napalm Death. My first impressions of ND were ‘was that it’ on hearing there 1 second track, but enjoying seeing them on childrens tv:
But, again it was John Peel that hooked me on them as a band. I used to tape his show on school nights and listen to it the next day, one evening he played ‘Circle of Hypocrisy’ from the then new Harmony Corruption album. Something about the songs riff had me playing it again and again and even though at the time I was opposed to growled vocals that song had me thinking about buying the album. So, when I saw an advert for the record promoting a limited edition vinyl edition with a free live record I was sold…or... it was sold. The band have become firm favourites of mine, I like what they stand for and how they stand for it. I’d seen the same bootleg knocking around the Internet at 128kbps; this is a vinyl rip at 320kbps.

This was another £1 wonder from Aston at Boss Tuneage. I liked the band name ‘High Circle’, they were from Roma, Italy which scored points with me and also the album title ‘Out of Darkness’ sounded brooding; all in all it was enough for me to part with my pound coin. Released on Subcore in 1986, the album sounds like a band in transition, there are straight forward punk tracks, but songs like opener ‘Throbs’ and the title track are longer and fairly dark; maybe even slightly gothic. The record has that classic 80’s bad production that many hardcore bands in transition went for…but you wouldn’t have it any other way. If you want to hear what they sounded like as a straight forward punk hardcore band check out the http://paynomorethan.blogspot.com which has the bands 6 track EP from 1985. Here’s the link for ‘Out of Darkness’, which is a 320kbps vinyl rip.
