Otherwise – September’s Gone

This 5 tracker displays a band in the process of maturity of sorts. There first record ‘First In Third’ was all Fat Wreck whereas here it feels like they spent a summer in the English countryside…and all the better for it. There are some wonderful textures and dynamics on display here…yet the power and melody remains and is used wonderfully by the singer who keeps each song feeling fluid amongst the numerous stop starts and musical left turns. Otherwise returned with a full length record ‘The Dark Adapted Eye’ and then that was that; which is a shame. Though not ground breaking, Otherwise were one of the better UK bands and were clearly developing their own sound, though I must say; if you like Braid…you will like this record.
